Latest news for Cyprus

Our activities in Cyprus, highlighted some of the best of what our institute does in supporting our members and collaborating with firms and other professional bodies.

In May 2019, Cyprus saw a hive of activity, beginning with two of ICAEW’s Executive Directors, Robert Hodgkinson and Mark Protherough, along with our Director of Education and Qualifications, Shaun Robertson, attending the European Accounting Association’s (EAA) Annual Congress. The congress is Europe’s biggest academic conference, hosted in a different country each year, and presents the opportunity for ICAEW to contribute to cutting-edge research and connect with academics to share perspectives. This year’s congress was hosted in Paphos with over 1,100 participants. Robert also hosted a screening and lively panel discussion in Nicosia, in partnership with the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Cyprus (ICPAC), of ICAEW’s second educational film, Without Question. The event included audience interventions and the insights of a senior panel, made up of leading representatives from the country’s regulators and academia.

Fiona Wilkinson, ICAEW President, and Sharron Gunn, Executive Director Members, visited Cyprus later in the month to meet members, and Fiona was a guest speaker at the Cyprus Institute of Internal Auditors’ (IIA Cyprus) Annual Conference, an organisation led by ICAEW member Soteroulla Savvides. Fiona and Sharron also met female ICAEW members at a women’s networking event, hosted by the British High Commissioner at his residence. We are grateful to all our members and stakeholders in Cyprus for their fantastic collaboration.
