Learn about ‘purpose tests’ and support tax charities
10 September 2020: Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer are hosting a webinar “What's the point of purpose tests?” to raise funds for the Bridge the Gap campaign on 8 October.
Paul Davison, partner at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, and Jonathan Peacock QC consider the role and scope of purpose-based anti-avoidance rules.
The webinar will address the role of purpose tests in the UK tax code, the difficulties with their operation and application by the Courts along with possible alternatives in the UK context of TAARs and the GAAR.
The webinar will also consider the “principal purpose test” in the context of Tax Treaties, the similar (but different) EU abuse doctrine and the approaches adopted in other jurisdictions, including in key EU jurisdictions and the US.
Date: Thursday, 8 October 2020
Time: 17:30 - 19:00 BST (UK Time)
A donation of £50 is requested to book for this event as part of the Bridge the Gap campaign to raise funds for tax charities, TaxAid and Tax Help for Older People. The COVID-19 pandemic has devastated lives and incomes and their services have never been more needed.
