When are the updated professional development skills being introduced?

New students who start their ACA training agreement with non-PD accredited employers on or after 01 September 2017 will automatically see the new professional development skills in their online training file.

For students with non-PD accredited employers who started their ACA training agreement before 01 September 2017 – then employers can choose if they transfer their students to the new professional skills in the online training file. You can let us know at applications@icaew.com

When will the updated skills be reflected in the exams?

The updated professional development skills will be reflected in the exam grids from 01 January 2018. The 2018 learning materials will reflect the updated professional development skills.

Is the way professional skills are assessed in the workplace changing?

No. There is no change to the way that skills are assessed in the workplace. Students should continue to document and evidence their skills development as before and continue to discuss the progress of these professional skills in their regular six-monthly reviews – just as before.

Is the way that skills are assessed in the exams changing?

No. There is no change to the way skills are assessed in exams. The exam application process is not changing, the pass mark remains the same as before, and there is no change to the amount of time a student should devote to their studies. The 2018 learning materials will show the skills assessed in each module, so it’s easier for students to see the skills they’re developing as they study for their exams.

Is the way a student needs to evidence their professional skills in their online training file changing?

No. Students should continue to document and evidence their skills development as before and continue to discuss the progress of these skills in their regular six-monthly reviews – just as before.

Will a student be disadvantaged if they do not transfer over to the updated skills development ladders?

No. A student will not be disadvantaged in any way if they remain on the current professional development skills ladders.

As an employer, is there are extra work for me if I transfer over my students?

No. There should not be any extra work for you. Students still need to document the development of their professional skills in their online training file as before, and discuss these with the QPRT (qualified person responsible for training) or Counsellor at the regular six-monthly reviews.
