On the 1 and 2 February, tutors, authors and examiners met at Chartered Accountants Hall for the 2018 ACA tutor conference. Over 250 delegates from different tutorial organisations, recognised under the ICAEW Partner in Learning scheme attended the conference from around the world.
The conference focused on examiner-led workshops based on the exam setting and marking process. During the workshop tutors marked real exam scripts from 2017 sittings and were provided with guidance from examiners as to how marks are allocated for knowledge and skills for each paper.
Tutors had direct access to the examiners throughout the day and were free to ask examiners and ICAEW staff any questions concerning the setting and marking of exams, the syllabus, learning materials.
ICAEW staff also held two computer-based exams, apprenticeships and learning drop in sessions. These sessions gave tutors an opportunity to look at the software and to ask questions to ICAEW staff regarding these areas.
