Getting it right with new staff
When employing staff for the first time you’ll need to navigate through a minefield of rules, regulations and guidance. The Library can help you by pointing you in the right direction for some of the key things you have to get right.
If you need a basic checklist the Government’s web page on Employing staff for the first time is a great place to start.
Employment law is always changing – so to stay on top of all the latest employment law reforms, why not keep up to date by checking the Library’s page on Employment Law? You can access legal updates, directors’ briefings, online articles and recommended books or articles from the Library’s large collection.
One important aspect to consider is the National Minimum Wage (NMW). Perhaps you are offering work experience, including placements and internships, so wondering how NMW legislation affects you. The Government’s web page provides useful guidance here too. And what about the April 2016 implementation of the National Living Wage? The Library can offer articles and guidance to assist with this as well as other working practices and pay resources.
Remember Library staff are always on hand to help. See our Guide to Services to find out how we can support you in your business, practice or studies.
