It's all in the Mindfulness

'Do not dwell in the past, do not dream of the future, concentrate the mind on the present moment.' - Buddha.

The practice of mindfulness is becoming ever more popular. Already proven as a successful tool in treating mental health issues, organisations are now adopting it as a way of encouraging a culture of balanced well-being among employees. The advantages claimed for employing mindfulness include: stress reduction, increased creativity, better productivity, and higher energy levels.

Mindfulness describes a mental state reached by focusing one’s awareness on the present moment, being attentive of feelings, thoughts and bodily sensations. For instance practitioners of mindfulness often use mindful breathing as a way of focusing their attention.

It’s well known that many large organisations (such as Google, Yahoo, Intel, Goldman Sachs), have introduced mindfulness into the workplace in order to reap the benefits of a more contented workforce. It’s also taken off amongst the big accountancy firms. EY offers access to mindfulness groups as a health service to staff; whilst Grant Thornton 'encourages people to exercise and engage in mindfulness everyday'. Take a look at what the big accountancy firms are doing to promote well-being in their organisational cultures.
