Every year the United States celebrates Women’s Equality Day on 26th August to commemorate the ratification of the 19th Amendment granting women equal rights to vote and to highlight the continued efforts of women to achieve true equality.

This is particularly pertinent in a year which could see the first female President of the United States; Hillary Clinton became the official nomination for the Democratic Party in this year’s Presidential Election (a significant achievement in itself as she is the first woman to hold this nomination in one of the two major political parties).

For all these ground-breaking events women have still not gained equality in business. The latest figures from the Fawcett Society show the gender pay gap between men and women in full time employment as 13.9%.

If you are seeking inspiration on how you can close the gap then ICAEW Library & Information Service has a range of resources:

  1. Your first port of call should be our Women in Business page which carefully curates relevant eBooks and journal articles, such as the motivational eBook by Rebecca Shambough, It's not a glass ceiling, it's a sticky floor: free yourself from the hidden behaviors sabotaging your career success.
  2. Additionally, you can easily loan a variety of useful books such Sheryl Sandberg’s seminal title Lean In: Women, work and the will to lead and Helene Lerner’s Smart Women Take Risks

For those of you who want to network, you can visit the Lean In website which encourages women to get together and make further strides.
