International share prices
Information on print and online sources for international share prices, including US and European markets.
The Financial Times has published various tables for international share prices (and P/E ratios) over the years. The labels used for the tables have included: 'Overseas shares', 'World Stock Market Prices', 'American markets' and 'Other international markets'. At the time of Writing (October 2013) this table only appears in the weekend edition of the FT and is headed 'American stocks' and 'Other international stocks'.
The coverage of the tables has varied, with recent tables including stocks in Australia, Austria, Belgium/Luxembourg, Brazil, Canada, China, Czech Republic, Denmark, Dubai, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Singapore, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey and the United States.
In addition to this, editions of the Financial Times published Monday-Friday include a table of share prices for the FT Global 500 under the heading of 'The world's largest companies' (not to be confused with their useful annual publication on the FT Global 500).
The ICAEW Library & Information Service holds a back-run of the FT on microfilm which is available for users to consult in person. If you wish to view the microfilm please advise the LIS ahead of your visit so they can retrieve the reels you need.
CGT- capital gains; the key figures for calculating your tax
The LIS holds a reference copy of the publication CGT- capital gains; the key figures for calculating your tax (Financial Times, 1985) which reproduces tables from the Financial Times for share prices and exchange rates for two key dates:
Overseas shares - 6 April 1965
Reprinted from the FT of Wednesday 7 April 1965.
Overseas shares - 31 March 1982
Reprinted from the FT of Thursday 1 April 1982.
Wall Street Journal Europe
The Wall Street Journal Europe publishes share prices for the Dow Jones Stoxx Europe 50 (including the largest European blue-chip companies) and the Dow Jones Industrial Average. More recent editions also list ‘Asia Titans’.
The ICAEW Library & Information Service retained the first issue of each month of the Wall Street Journal Europe for this share price information. Our holdings cover January 2010-March 2012 and from August 2013 – April 2017. For further information on this title, see the full catalogue entry for the Wall Street Journal Europe.

In addition to this, FT.com also provides a company research tool for share prices in over 40 countries.
The Wall Street Journal
The Wall Street Journal provides historic share price information for major markets including Dow Jones Industrial average (DJIA), NASDAQ, S&P 500, Stoxx Europe 600, Global Dow, Nikei 225 and other major US and international markets. In most cases data goes back to 2000.
From the Markets page you can either search by a country name under ‘Quotes Lookup’ on the right hand side of the page, or follow the link above to the Market data page, select a market i.e. Hang Seng, and then select a company from that market.
On an individual companies page you can select ‘Historic prices’ from the ‘All Sections’ menu on the right hand side.
BigCharts provides share information from a number of major markets from around the globe. From the home page you can select the option "Global symbol Lookup" to search for a company by keyword and select the country to search within and security type. Share price information can then be viewed on a quick, interactive or java enabled chart. The later allows you the option to view historical share prices on an interactive chart dating back a decade by moving the cursor up or down the share line. It is important to note that as this is an American website the dates are in mm/dd/year.
Most stock exchanges now have an online presence and offer some facility to view share prices whether these are static lists recording end of day quotes or real time quoting services.
