Being a responsible individual

Daniel Henwood shares his experience of becoming and being a Responsible Individual, and the key mindset changes to help transition from being a manager.

This all requires soft skills and firms should ensure that they have development plans in place for those they plan to entrust with RI status. These development plans should address at least some and preferably all of the following skills: leadership; communication; providing (and receiving) constructive feedback; and conflict resolution. 

Of course, technical knowledge remains relevant and firms should ensure that all RIs continue to attend mandatory audit and financial reporting updates. However, the soft skills should not be forgotten.
