Looking for audit on google

Do search engines shrink or expand the audit expectation gap? Sandra Higgins googles audit and considers the results.

Audit means different things to different people and public perceptions vary widely. When those outside the profession want to learn more about what audit is and what auditors do, a search engine is often the first port of call, so let’s see what Google has to say on such matters.

A few months ago one of the top Google hits misleadingly implied that the main role of the auditor is to prepare accounts. That definition is no longer there, thankfully, but here’s one that is: “An official inspection of an organisation’s accounts, typically by an independent body” – Oxford Dictionaries.
