The Corporate Finance Faculty held its Annual General Meeting on Thursday 22 May 2025 at Chartered Accountants’ Hall.
AGM in the Members' room at Chartered Accountants' Hall
We were delighted to see such a strong turnout from our member firms at our Annual General Meeting on 22 May. The event began with a buffet lunch held in the Members' Club this year, to provide a more conducive environment for networking and reconnecting. Following the lunch, attendees proceeded to the Members' Room for the formal program.

Looking back
David Petrie, Head of Corporate Finance, welcomed everyone to the AGM and pointed their attention to the 2024 Annual Review publication which is also available to download. Faculty chairman, Alistair Brew, then set out the faculty’s work in 2024 as summarised in the Annual Review.

Alistair also thanked the board members stepping down for their service over the years, Diane Craig (Partner, RSM) and Chris Hunt (Head of M&A, Rentokil), as well as Richard Dingle (UAE Transactions Leader at EY) who steps down as Chair of the Middle East Panel. He welcomed Yvette Allen (formerly chair of the Technical Committee and now on ICAEW’s Council) back to the board as an ex officio member and James Wild (Partner, RSM). He also gave a warm welcome to Salmaan Khawaja (Head of Financial Advisory Services, Grant Thornton UAE) who takes over as Chair of the Middle East Panel.

Looking forward
David then returned to the lectern to discuss the faculty's work so far in 2025 and our plans, with several initiatives and events in the second half of the year, such as our launch events for the Commercial Due Diligence and Management Due Diligence guidelines. He also spoke about the faculty’s continued work on the use of AI in M&A and the webinars to be run later in the year.
Before closing the AGM, David invited members to suggest ways we could improve communication and engagement, and to share their ideas to help shape our work in 2026.
I extend my personal thanks to you, our members, for your continuing support. As we continue to navigate a difficult and often unpredictable economy, the faculty board, technical committee and faculty team will aim to anticipate challenges the industry will face and harness opportunities to continue to support our members”
