The Pathways to Membership route enables fully qualified members from certain professional bodies to apply for ICAEW membership based on their experience. Eligible applicants complete the Pathways Examination of Experience. This is a series of questions about your past experience and achievements, that you answer in your own time. There is no exam hall and no need for formal tuition – it is all based on your past experience.

Key points

  • Eligible bodies include ACCA, CIPFA, CICPA, ICAB, ICAI, ICAP, SOEL and others
  • Need at least 5 years’ full membership with your eligible professional body
  • Application needs to be supported by a sponsor (does not have to be an ICAEW member)
  • Only 2 application dates each year
