The SRA – growling dog turned guard dog?
Over the last few years, there have been numerous stories about the SRA approach to inspections at law firms. One member once described the inspector as a growling dog and was frightened to say anything in front of him for fear he would ‘snap at the comment and find something else to punish’ the practitioner for!
However, during a recent meeting between representatives of ICAEW’s Solicitors Group and the SRA, it became apparent to us, that the changes resulting from Outcomes Focused Regulation were not the thing of myths and rumours.
Although our discussions were based on hypothetical questions designed to test the interpretation of the new rules and indicate how the SRA would approach matters, the responses we received gave the strongest indication yet, that the SRA want to practically apply outcomes focus to as many situations as they reasonably can.
