TAXline News: April 2019

Frank Haskew, Head of the Tax Faculty, reports on recent developments at the Tax Faculty during April 2019.

As readers will know, Jane Moore is stepping down as editor of TAXline and will be signing off with the May issue. Jane has been editor of TAXline since 2005 and has performed a wonderful job in upholding the high standards of the magazine and helping members navigate what have been (and still are) some tumultuous years in the tax world. We are delighted to report that the new editor of TAXline will be Lindsey Wicks. Lindsey was formerly with Grant Thornton and is a past editor of TAXline Tax Planning. She is a regular contributor to TAXline and is currently a senior tax editor with Croner-i. Lindsey will also assume responsibility for editorship of the Tax Faculty’s weekly newswire, which has been in the capable hands of Anita Monteith, Jane Moore and Ian Young since 2005.

The chancellor delivered the Spring Statement on 13 March 2019. He had promised a statement without any tax changes although there were some, including the welcome announcement that Making Tax Digital (MTD) would not be extended to other taxes in 2020. There is a summary of the tax material on page 24.
