Simplification of tax reporting and payment arrangements for the self-employed and landlords

The idea of introducing simpler, more real time tax reporting and payment arrangements for the self-employed and landlords is gaining momentum, even while we wait for the government to decide on the next steps for Making Tax Digital.

In this webinar Anita Monteith is joined by the Office of Tax Simplification (OTS) to discuss the OTS document which sets out the scope of a new project about simplifying tax reporting and payment arrangements for self-employed people and landlords of private residential property. We explore the benefits and drawbacks of such a change, and consider issues such as whether there should be more than one system available to suit different sectors, and whether any change should be on a mandatory or voluntary basis.

The OTS expects to publish an initial paper on this work in the autumn of 2019 and would welcome input into the review from ICAEW members.
