ICAEW on tour

David Lyford-Smith recounts a two-week trip across South-East Asia, discussing how technology is changing accounting.

Last November I travelled on a two-week roadshow around South-East Asia supporting the local ICAEW teams in bringing the IT Faculty’s thought leadership to local members, students and business contacts. This was my first trip of this kind, and I wanted to record my impressions and what I learned from it.

After a long flight, my first port of call was Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. I was there to support two conferences – the 29th Asian-Pacific Conference on International Accounting Issues (APCIAI), an academic conference, and the large-scale MIA International Accounting Conference.

Working with academic and local accounting institutes in different countries is a part of how ICAEW can connect to communities around the world.
