Changing Futures bursary programme

The Foundation provides bursaries through UK universities, and in Hong Kong SAR and Cyprus, for talented students from financially disadvantaged backgrounds wishing to study for an accountancy or finance related degree at university.

ICAEW Foundation is particularly grateful to the family of the late Geoffrey Beckingham FCA who have generously sponsored a long running bursary programme, through ICAEW Foundation, in Alliance Manchester Business School as a thoughtful bequeath in memory of their father.

Applying for an ICAEW Foundation Changing Futures Bursary

We offer a very limited number of bursaries each year and the awarding criteria is strictly applied. Our bursaries are specifically for talented but financially disadvantaged (a family income of circa £25,000 pa) school leavers who would like to study for an accountancy or finance related degree at university. We would like to assist students who specifically do not qualify for any other form of financial assistance or funding.

The application process is directly via each university and please watch out for participating universities on our website from April – October annually.

ICAEW Foundation in Hong Kong SAR

ICAEW Foundation in Hong Kong, our sister charity, closed in 2018 but we are continuing to provide meaningful annual bursaries to talented aspiring accountancy and finance undergraduate students in Hong Kong universities.

By offering life-changing opportunities to ambitious students who may otherwise miss out, our charity is a leading example of how the traditions and values of chartered accountants make a difference to individuals and societies everywhere.

The bursary programme

We are currently supporting students in the Chinese University of Hong Kong for each year of their four year degree course. Hear from our students on what the bursary meant to them:

Lee Shing Hei

I would like to express my heartfelt thanks for your generosity in providing this bursary…it will significantly help me to relive the burden of tuition payment. I am in my first year of the Bachelor of Professional Accountancy and have borrowed for my study. The bursary enables me to keep my debt much lower and encourages and inspires my future study.

Li Fu Wai Winson

I grew up in Hong Kong and I am studying Professional Accountancy at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. It means many things to me to attend college since my parents never had the opportunity to have high education due to financial problems. So I am the first to earn a degree in my family and they are very proud of me. Obviously this bursary will significantly reduce the financial burden on my family and allow me to dedicate more time to my studies.

Our supporters

Through the goodwill of our contacts we hope to inspire individuals, trusts and organisations to continue to support the Foundation’s objectives in Hong Kong SAR. We aim to raise enough funds to build an endowment to support up to 30 students a year.

“The responsibility for the success of our work in Hong Kong rests with those who believe in the accounting profession’s history of outstanding achievements – not only in creating and upholding standards and excellence but, just as importantly, in supporting and developing the talents of aspiring students”

Kenneth McKelvie, ex-chairman of Deloitte and supporter of ICAEW Foundation
