How to use the online training file

The online training file is a mandatory part of ACA training. Find out how you access and review your student’s progress within their online training file.

We are updating our qualifications

The below guidance is for employers with existing ACA students who started up to 30 June 2025.

The Next Generation ACA launches in September 2025. The online training file for Next Generation ACA students who started from 1 July 2025, or have been switched to the Next Generation ACA, will be available from September. More guidance on changes to the training file will be made available here soon. In the meantime, learn more about the Next Generation ACA training process.

Accessing your student's training file

Throughout their training, your student must record and maintain their online training file.

You will need to review their progress using the training file during six monthly reviews. You will also need to use the training file to provide final sign-off at the end of your student’s training agreement.

Resources to support you and your students

Watch the online training file videos

The training file videos demonstrate what the training file is, how it fits into the overall process students need to go through to qualify as an ICAEW Chartered Accountant and how your students should update and log their progress within the file.

These videos also show qualified persons responsible for training (QPRTs), Authorised Training Principals (ATPs) and counsellors how to access their student's training files and how to approve work experience.
