The Institute of Book-Keepers was established in 1916 and the official journal appeared four years later with a mixture of news, articles and lecture notes. The December 1944 issue of the journal carried the article 'A brief history of the Institute of Book-Keepers' (p61-64) which provides more detail on their early activities.

Overview

Since 1967 the Institute has gone through a series of name changes (Institute of Book-keepers and Related Data Processing, Institute of Administrative Accounting and Data Processing, Institute of Administrative Accountants) and from 1988 has been known as the Institute of Financial Accountants.

History of the journal

The Institute of Book-Keepers' Journal was first published in March 1920 as the official journal of the Institute of Book-Keepers - and then published on a quarterly basis with issues in March, June, September and December.

The object of the journal was described in the first issue as 'to chronicle the activities of the Institute of Book-Keepers and to provide its members and all interested in book-keeping with a readable periodical.'
