Farming Basics Update One  Background to the UK farming sector, crops, livestock and income streams
The basic course provides an introduction to the agricultural industry in the UK, fundamental agricultural economics and the steps to be taken when preparing and interpreting accounts for a farming business. Starting with an overview of the UK agricultural sector, it will cover key areas including farm types, crops, livestock, machinery and business structures, looking at yields and performance. It will also cover simple agronomy, the importance of government support to the industry and the accounting treatment to be adopted.

Farming Basics Update Two  Accounts: preparation and review
Course 2 will build on the areas covered in course 1 and will concentrate on the practical preparation and review of farm accounts concentrating on cut off and analysis in the preparation process and the use of appropriate analytical tools in the interpretation and review process. Each of the points covered will be reinforced by case studies and illustrative exercises to be completed by delegates.

Farming Basics Update Three  Tax basics: common mistakes to avoid
Course 3 looks at income tax and corporation tax in an agricultural context. The preparation of tax computations for both incorporated and unincorporated farming businesses will also be included, along with typical problem areas from a tax perspective. There will be a brief introduction to the agricultural relevance of Inheritance Tax and Capital Gains tax in regular compliance work. There will be a number of case studies and practical worked examples to develop an understanding of the subject.

Farming Advanced Update One  Structural changes, succession and survival planning
This course builds on the matters covered in the basic course, updating for specific and more recent developments in the sector and current market conditions. It will examine changes introduced by the 2020 Agriculture Act, the new range of environmental subsidies and their implications for the industry, the application of FRS 102/105, particularly with regard to the recognition of subsidies and the taxation measures announced in recent budgets and their application to agricultural businesses. It will also deal with succession planning and farm restructuring at a practical level.

Farming Advanced Update Two  Tax: capital taxes, recent developments and tax interactions
This course covers a more detailed examination of the tax issues within planning for succession, including both capital and income taxes, advanced discussion on the special treatments available to of farms for income tax purposes. There will be a review of recent tax cases and areas currently coming under detailed examination for tax purpose.
