Mondelez sues Zurich

US food company Mondelez is suing its insurance company, Zurich, for refusing to pay out on a $100m claim for damage caused by the NotPetya malware attack.

Zurich disputed the claim as the policy language includes an exclusion for “hostile or warlike action” by a government or sovereign power or people acting for them.

The NotPetya ransomware attack in 2017 hit companies around the world, interrupting their business through systems being out of action and resulting in billions of dollars of cyber insurance loss. The US and UK blamed it on Russian hackers attacking the Ukranian government.
