Finance Bill 2005

Finance Bill 2005 was published on 24 March 2005 and became the first Finance Bill to be published in 2005. The bill was withdrawn and replaced by the Finance (No.2) Bill in April 2005.


Some measures from this bill were included in Finance (No.2) Bill whilst other measures were later included in the third Finance Bill for 2005, also called Finance Bill 2005 (published 26th May 2005).

Finance Bill of Spring 2005 (TAXREP 15/05)
On 1 April 2005 ICAEW issued a press release calling on the Government 'to defer passing complicated and controversial elements of the Finance Bill until after the general election'. The Text of the letter sent in March 2005 to the Paymaster General by the Tax Faculty (ICAEW) was published as the Technical Release.

TAXline
The ICAEW Tax Faculty published its views on the bill in the TAXline weekly news update No 249 on 27th March 2005. The update includes the Faculty's concerns about the degree of scrutiny the bill will receive with a general election looming and sets out their intention to write to 'the Government, the Opposition parties and members of last year's Standing Committee urging them not to seek to pass all the provisions in the published Bill before Parliament is dissolved'.
