When you find yourself uncertain on some important matters, it's nice to know that free, expert advice is just a call away.

The ICAEW members' professional indemnity (PI) insurance scheme is packed with additional benefits designed especially for members. One of these benefits is access to free tax, legal and medical helplines.

QBE's tax and VAT helpline

Through an arrangement with Markel Tax, QBE provides access to a free helpline for specialist advice on all UK direct taxes. Talk to an expert about your tax queries regarding:

  • Income tax
  • PAYE
  • National insurance
  • Corporation tax
  • Capital gains tax
  • Inheritance tax
  • VAT
  • Stamp duty land tax

This service is not only to help with your own tax queries but also to help you handle queries from your clients, whether it be a technical question or just a second opinion. The helpline is available to all partners and directors of your firm, Monday to Friday between 9:00 – 17:30.

Eurolaw legal advice helpline

Members of the ICAEW members' PI insurance scheme have access to a legal helpline provided by DAS. The helpline provides access to confidential legal advice on any commercial or personal legal problems subject to the laws of the European Union, the Isle of Man, the Channel Islands, Switzerland and Norway. Talk to an expert for advice on a range of matters including:

  • Employment
  • Contract disputes
  • Prosecutions
  • Data protection
  • Discrimination
  • Statutory licences
  • Property protection
  • Accidents and injuries
  • Tenancy disputes

This service is available to all partners and directors of your firm. There is no limit to how often you access this helpline, or how long you stay on the phone with the adviser.

Counselling helpline

The DAS counselling helpline provides confidential access to a team of highly experienced and professionally trained counsellors.

Sometimes, people face problems at work or at home that they find difficult to discuss with their family and friends. When a problem is left unresolved and not talked through, the signs of stress generally increase, such as insomnia, muscle tension, tearfulness, tiredness, expressions of anger and feelings of panic. A counsellor will listen and help by exploring and clarifying the relevant pressing issues and difficulties.

Often, callers will only need one session with a counsellor, however weekly telephone counselling sessions can be arranged if needed. Counsellors may also provide details of face-to-face counsellors in the caller's area and sometimes suggest further assistance or onward referral to voluntary or professional agencies where appropriate (any costs involved in such referrals will be the responsibility of the caller).

Health and medical helpline

This DAS helpline provides access to non-diagnostic health and medical information. Advice can be given on:

  • General health issues
  • Non-diagnostic medical matters
  • Allergies
  • Side-effects of drugs
  • How to improve overall health

Access to this helpline not only provides a duty of care to your employees but may also reduce sick leave and absenteeism as it provides callers with a better understanding of their health problems and how to treat them.

Your partners, directors and employees would have free unlimited access to this helpline with no limit to the amount of time you can stay on the phone with a nurse, or to how many different health issues you wish to discuss.
