Online, live learning
F-TEN® is made up of five key elements which run in parallel over six months. This ensures that participants have the time to learn, reflect and apply their knowledge and skills with support from fellow participants, their mentor, sponsor and our expert facilitators. The primary focus is developing the ‘value-added’ skills crucial for securing a board-level leadership role.
F-TEN® gives delegates the unique opportunity to be mentored by an experienced board-level leader from a large listed or private company. Our mentors have been selected for their extensive business experience, leadership capability and commitment to people development.
The CFO assessment analyses participant’s role readiness.
At the start of F-TEN, participant’s capabilities are benchmarked. Our F-TEN facilitators will then identify areas of improvement and work with participants to close any gaps.
Practical simulation workshops
F-TEN workshops simulate the core challenges CFOs face – enabling participants to prepare and practise in a consequence free environment.

External input from C-suite experts
Throughout the programme participants will learn from CFOs/ CEOs/ COOs across various industries. Our C-suite experts will share their experiences and examples of how they have overcome some of the challenges participants will face in their career.
Peer learning groups
Throughout the programme, you will share your challenges with your peers in a confidential, supportive environment. Your peers will provide you with insightful, objective viewpoints that will allow you to tackle the problem from a different perspective.
Personal one to one guidance from a professional coach or mentor
Throughout the programme you will have six 90-minute sessions, booked around your schedule with an experienced coach or mentor.
These professionals are there to impart their invaluable wisdom and help you navigate current and future work challenges.
You will choose who you partner with, with the guidance of the ICAEW programme manager.

Elona is the Chief Executive Officer of IRIS Software Group and is responsible for all operations across the Group. She has held several senior leadership roles in Big 4 and PE-backed businesses, including Mavenir, Acision, Arthur Andersen and Deloitte. Elona has also won numerous business leadership awards, including UK Tech Award’s Business Woman of the Year 2020.
John is Group CFO of the digital insurer, Hastings Group Holdings. Prior to this, he has been CFO of three other insurers and a bank. Two of these are FTSE 250, one has a UK debt listing, one was SEC listed and one privately owned. Prior to his CFO career, John was Group Financial Controller at Barclays plc and worked at other roles at Barclays and as a Partner at Ernst & Young LLP.
Michalis Imellos was the Chief Financial Officer at Coca-Cola HBC AG and Group Chief Financial Officer for Coca-Cola Hellenic Bottling Co. SA and Member-Management Board at Coca Cola HBC-Srbija AD (both are subsidiaries of Coca-Cola HBC AG). He is now a Non-Executive Director for the Coca-Cola HBC Finance BV .
Paul is the Chief Executive Officer of McDonald's UK & Ireland. During his 25 year tenure with the Fast food giant, he has excelled in various finance roles, including CFO. Paul has extensive experience in leading transformation projects and was shortlisted for HR Director's CEO of the Year in 2016 for his passion and commitment to people and talent development.

The programme is very practically oriented, rather than being theory based. The quality of the workshops and peer learning groups was superb, with really good content, excellent facilitators and plenty of opportunity to discuss and think through real work issues.
I really enjoyed working with a C-suite Mentor, with whom I would go for lunch and talk through business issues and my career development. The group training sessions were also excellent, with a mix of teaching, peer-to-peer discussion groups, and talks from a variety of CFOs/CEOs.
I would recommend the F-TEN programme to others. The tangible gains thus far have really been around my team: greater focus on their development, maximising my value-added contribution and recognising the delivery of my brand is that team. And there is more to come: that’s F-TEN’s legacy.
The opportunity to have a mentor from a FTSE 100 company appealed hugely – someone from outside my organisation who has helped to challenge me in ways I wouldn’t otherwise receive. Who is F-TEN for?
Participants typically hold Finance Director, Group Financial Controller, Director of Finance or Head of Finance roles or are new CFO’s less than 18 months in the role.
How many participants are in an F-TEN cohort?
We accept a maximum of 30 participants onto the programme each year to allow for effective networking and engagement in workshops.
How long is F-TEN?
F-TEN is a six month programme. The 2021 programme starts on 21 April and ends on 29 September.
Overall, the programme totals 51 hours of learning delivered in 1–3 hour sessions.
Is F-TEN entirely online?
Continuing on from the success of our last online cohort, F-TEN will run via the online format.
Benefits of it being online:
- Manageable time away from their day to day
- Time to digest content in-between workshops and put it into practice
- The option to work with those based in different geographic locations
Typically, do participants fund themselves or do their employers sponsor them to go on F-TEN?
Occasionally, participants fund themselves, but it is more common for employers to sponsor participants.
This is because F-TEN will have a far bigger impact on the business than the initial investment.
