Member Research 2026

We’re excited to be launching our 2026 Member Research Programme, and we’d really value your input.

Helping us understand what matters most to our members

This programme is designed to help us better understand our members – what you value, what you need from us, and where we can do more to ensure our resources and support are focused on the things that matter most to our membership. Over the coming months, we’ll be gathering insight in a number of ways, including:

In-depth interviews

To explore individual experiences, needs and perspectives in more detail.

Focus groups

Bringing members together to share experiences and ideas.

star

Online survey

Giving all members an opportunity to share their views.

Independent research partner

To ensure the research is open, confidential and independent, we’re working with YouGov, a trusted research partner, to deliver the programme on our behalf.
YouGov will manage all individual contact and correspondence relating to the research.

Your individual responses and data will remain strictly anonymous and will not be shared with ICAEW in a way that identifies you personally. This means you can be open and honest about your experiences, needs and views, helping us build a genuine picture of what matters to our membership.

We want to understand:

  • What do you need from us?
  • What would make our support and resources more valuable to you?
  • Are there barriers that make it harder for you to engage?
  • What could we do differently to better support you?

Your voice can make a difference

The insight we gather through this programme will help us refine our member value proposition and shape where we focus our resources in the future.

So, if you have members in your network who you know are less engaged with us, please encourage them to take part when invited! A few minutes of their time could help us understand what really matters to them – and ultimately help us make sure we’re focusing our future efforts where they have the greatest impact.

Whether you engage with us regularly or rarely, we want to hear from you.

What happens next?

The research programme will run throughout September – November 2026.

Depending on the research activity, you may be invited to take part in an interview, focus group or online survey. You will receive all initial correspondence from ICAEW, with individual invitations to participate directly from YouGov.

We hope you’ll take the opportunity to share your experience and help shape what comes next for our membership.

Frequently asked questions

  • 1. Why are you doing this survey now?

We want to develop a deeper understanding of our members’ needs, experiences and expectations. The findings will help us refine our member value proposition and ensure our future priorities and decisions reflect what matters most to our members.

  • 2. Why should I take part?

This is your opportunity to have your say on what ICAEW means to you, what you value most about your membership, what we could do more or less of and where there are opportunities for improvement. Your feedback will help us focus on the services, resources and support that are most useful and valuable to you.

  • 3. Will my responses be anonymous?

Yes. Individual responses will be kept strictly anonymous from ICAEW. YouGov will handle all individual correspondence and research data, so we will not be able to attribute individual responses to you.

ICAEW and YouGov are committed to protecting your personal data and complying with all applicable data protection requirements throughout the research process.

  • 4. Who is being asked to take part, and why?

We’re inviting all members to take part in the survey. The more members who participate, the broader and more representative a picture we can build of what matters to our membership, so please encourage fellow members in your network to have their say too.

We’ll take a more targeted approach when inviting members to participate in in-depth interviews and online focus groups, ensuring we hear from a representative mix of members across our membership. We are particularly keen to hear from those who do not currently engage with us regularly, to ensure their views are captured.

  • 5. What will be different as a result?

We expect the insights from this research to help us identify where our future efforts and investment should be focused. Ultimately, we want to use what we learn to develop a more meaningful and valuable proposition for our members.

  • 6. What happens next?

The quantitative and qualitative research will take place during September – November 2026, followed by analysis of the findings.

We’re excited to start using these insights to test and implement some of your suggestions from 2027 onwards. As this work progresses, we’ll share a “You said – we did” update to show how member feedback is helping to shape what we do.

  • 7. I missed the deadline, can I still share my feedback?

Absolutely, we would still value your feedback regarding your member experience. Please reach out to us via memberfeedback@icaew.com
