Rachel Reeves MP delivers keynote speech at ICAEW and meets with local firms to discuss audit
Rachel Reeves MP, Chair of the BEIS Select Committee, delivered a keynote speech at Chartered Accountants Hall on 12th November covering audit reform, trust in business and corporate governance. This was followed by a roundtable discussion between Rachel and audit firms in the Leeds area to discuss the future of audit on 7th December.
Rachel Reeves MP is chair of the Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy Select Committee which has been the catalyst for the recent focus on the audit and accountancy profession that followed the collapse of Carillion. The Kingman Review of the Financial Reporting Council was announced by the Secretary of State for Business in front of this Committee.
The keynote speech was later followed by a roundtable between Rachel Reeves MP and local audit firms in the Leeds area to discuss the challenges facing the audit sector on 7th December. The roundtable featured a breadth of audit firms with representatives keen to talk about how the profession recognises that change is necessary and desirable, as well as offer their thoughts on some of the proposals which Rachel had outlined in her keynote speech.
