Sources for cost of livings reports and comparisons
On this page you can find international cost of living information. This data can be used to make decisions on salary levels, evaluate job opportunities or produce estimates for the cost of overseas relocation.
Cost of living reports
The Library & Information Service's Cost of living reports allow you to compare the cost of living in two cities using a basic package of 24 items or a bespoke package of over 300 items.
The Library & Information Service also produces the Knowledge guide to the Consumer Price Index which covers the Retail Price Index (RPI), the Consumer Prices Index (CPI) and selected international equivalents.
There are various organisations that provide comparative information on cost of living. The CityMayors website provides useful summaries of the latest surveys.
Economist Intelligence Unit
The Economist Intelligence Unit produces the Worldwide cost of living report which is available free to registered users.
Expatistan is a collaborative online database for comparing the cost of living between different countries and cities. Please note the accuracy is dependent on data entered by users and may be subject to greater variation than commercial products. However, this service does cover a greater range of cities and may be updated more frequently.
Mercer's Cost of Living Survey is published twice a year and is available to purchase through their website. The homepage offers a free copy of the top 50 rankings. Mercer also conduct research on a range of global mobility topics.
Numbeo is a collaborative online database for comparing the cost of living between different countries and cities. UBS Wealth Management
Price and Earnings is an report produced by UBS Wealth Management every three years. It uses a standardised basket of 122 goods and services to compare living costs around the world. The report is divided between price comparisons and wage comparisons, with supplementary analysis.
