External Member – Governance and Appointments Committee

Help shape the future governance of a leading professional membership organisation.

ICAEW is seeking an independent external member to join its Governance and Appointments Committee (GAC). This is an opportunity for an experienced governance professional to bring independent insight, constructive challenge and strategic thinking to the governance of a respected global professional body.

About the role

GAC supports ICAEW Council by:

  • Reviewing ICAEW's governance arrangements and recommending improvements.
  • Overseeing appointments and succession planning across governance committees and boards.
  • Helping ensure ICAEW's governance remains effective, transparent and fit for the future.

As an external member, you will work alongside elected and appointed members, contributing an independent perspective on governance and appointments.

About you

We are looking for someone with:

  • Strong governance experience and understanding of effective governance practices.
  • Experience of reviewing or improving governance arrangements.
  • Strategic thinking, sound judgement and personal credibility.
  • The confidence to provide constructive challenge while working collaboratively.
  • Experience of senior appointments, recruitment or succession planning.
  • An appreciation of professional bodies, membership organisations or similar stakeholder environments.

Commitment

  • Three year term, with the possibility of reappointment for a further term.
  • Four meetings per year, plus preparation time and occasional additional meetings.
  • Meetings are held at Chartered Accountants' Hall, London, with virtual attendance available.

Remuneration

£5,000 per annum, plus reimbursement of reasonable travel and business expenses.
