Biography
Shah Nawaz Khan is Head of Financial Services with AJMS Global. He is a Chartered Accountant from ICAI and ICAEW and holds a bachelor's degree in commerce from Delhi University, India.
Shah Nawaz has nearly 20 years of professional experience specializing in financial services, energy, and family business. He has worked for a number of years in the London financial services market and lead audit and advisory teams on funds, banks, insurer including life, general, and Lloyds syndicates listed in the UK, US, and Bermuda.
Shah Nawaz has also worked in the North Sea energy market and lead audits of several UK and US listed energy clients. Besides leading the audit of large clients’ groups, his experience includes compliance and regulatory reviews, due diligence projects on control and governance framework, operational controls, Basel, and SOX compliance. He has performed firm-wide quality reviews across the globe and in the Middle East he has been leading diversified portfolios including the IFRS conversations across the region on leading banks, sovereign funds and insurers.
He is a member of the technical group for research on Takaful standard, similar to IFRS 17 for AAOIFI. He also served as Vice Chairman of the ICAI Muscat Chapter (2018-2019).
He has been part of the methodology, learning, and development teams in the region and in Europe, and facilitated internal and external training on IFRS, insurance, banking, industry trends, best practices, and soft skills. He has also been part of various industry forums and knowledge groups across the globe. He writes for trade journals, newspapers and magazines on technical and non-technical subjects in leading newspapers and professional magazines.
Before joining the Grant Thornton network, he worked with Deloitte in Bahrain and in the past worked has worked with the big four audit firms in India, UAE, Kuwait, KSA, Malta, and the UK. He also worked as head of assurance with Grant Thornton Oman.
Shah Nawaz is also an established poet and participates in poetry functions across the globe.
