The technical requirements to access our virtual learning system.
ICAEW Virtual Learning Environment (D2L Brightspace LMS and e-Portfolio)
For an optimal experience, D2L recommends using supported browsers with D2L products. Maintenance browsers are older browser versions that are not tested extensively against new versions of D2L products.
Note the following:
- For desktop systems, you must have Adobe Flash Player 10.1 or greater.
- The Brightspace Daylight Experience features are now optimized for production environments when using the Google Chrome browser, Apple Safari browser, Microsoft Edge browser, Microsoft Internet Explorer browser, and Mozilla Firefox browsers.
|Browser||Supported Browser Version(s)||Maintenance Browser Version(s)|
|Microsoft® Internet Explorer®||N/A||11|
ESR - current version (including a 12-week overlap with the previous version)

ICAEW Virtual Learning Environment (D2L Brightspace/Bongo Virtual Classrooms and Video Assignments)
To ensure the best learning and training experience possible, please follow the requirements and recommendations. The supported browsers are Chrome and Firefox. Your Internet browser must be up-to-date (installed or updated within the last month).
Note: Desktop share within Virtual Classroom meetings is only fully supported within Chrome. In Firefox, you can share a single application window.
Most browsers will update automatically (or have an option to do so). To check for pending updates, view Chrome instructions or Firefox instructions. If you run into issues using Bongo, try (re)installing Chrome or Firefox, as your current browser may have too many add-ons or restrictions. For best functionality, be sure to use Chrome or Firefox.
|Browser||In-Browser Video Recorder||Enter Meetings||Desktop Sharing||Other Features|
|iPhone/iPad - Safari||Yes||Yes||No||Yes|
|iPhone/iPad - Chrome/Firefox||No||No||No||Yes|
|Android/Tablet - Chrome/Firefox||Yes||Yes||No||Yes|
|*Important: Desktop share within Virtual Classroom is only fully supported in Chrome. In Firefox, you can only share a specific application window. If you want to share your entire screen, use Chrome.|
As a general rule, the better your internet connection, the better experience you will have.
If your connection is unstable/below the speeds recommended above, then use a wired connection or a stable wireless connection while uploading/recording.
- Virtual Classroom Meetings: at least 8 Mbps upload/download speed
- Video Assignments: at least 1 Mbps upload/download speed
You must have a webcam and microphone working with your computer (most are built-in). If you don’t have a built-in webcam/mic, they can be purchased and plugged into your computer. To find your mic/webcam settings, review your computer documentation.
On a mobile device, you can access Bongo through a browser. At this time, the following features are not supported on mobile:
- Desktop share when recording videos within Individual Project and Group Project assignments, as well as in Virtual Classroom
You can also use an external video camera or mobile device to record and upload videos for Individual Project and Group Project (Q&A and Interactive Video responses must be recorded within the assignment).
Note: The maximum video file size is 20GB. Please note that the larger your file size, the longer uploading and processing times will take - especially if you have a poor internet connection. If you need to reduce the file size or trim the starting/ending points, use a standard program like Microsoft Movie Maker or iMovie. These programs should be on your computer or be easy to add.
