On 22 September 2025, the ICAEW Financial Services Faculty hosted a Roundtable of its members to seek their views on a selection of the topical issues from two papers affecting UK financial services. Specifically, the Roundtable was asked for its views across three themes.
- whether the administrative costs of regulation are an undue burden for firms;
- whether financial services regulations are accessible (i.e. how easy is it to find the relevant regulations; and how easy is it to understand those regulations when found); and
- whether the regulations and the supervisory approach deliver an appropriate trade-off between risk taking and the public interest benefit of financial services regulation.
For each theme we asked the roundtable questions to get a measure or feel for the significance of the issues. The roundtable was then asked to elaborate on the potential reasons behind the results, the implications, the challenges and possible remedies. The roundtable’s views are summarised below with the detail in the main body of this note.
