ICAEW and Mauritius Institute of Professional Accountants sign Memorandum of Understanding

ICAEW and the Mauritius Institute of Professional Accountants (MIPA) have signed a memorandum of understanding committing to develop the accountancy profession in Mauritius.

The agreement between ICAEW, a world leader in the accountancy profession, and MIPA, who regulate the accountancy profession in Mauritius, was signed on Tuesday 3 December by ICAEW President Fiona Wilkinson and the CEO of the MIPA Sudhir Newaj at a ceremony in Ebene.

The memorandum of understanding sets out the two professional bodies’ intention to cooperate in developing education, training and continuing professional development, and the promotion of high professional standards.

Fiona Wilkinson, ICAEW President, said: “We’re pleased to be signing this memorandum of understanding to strengthen our relationship with accountants in Mauritius and give our members greater opportunities. Continued economic growth in Mauritius – driven in part by a strong services sector – means there are many opportunities for accountants here.

“It’s important professional bodies work together across borders, so we learn from each other and support our members as they work internationally. We work in partnership with accountancy bodies around the world to promote and develop best practice, and we are happy to work closely with MIPA too.”

Sudhir Newaj, CEO of the Mauritius Institute of Professional Accountants said: “It is with great pleasure that we have renewed the memorandum of understanding between MIPA and ICAEW which will greatly assist MIPA in promoting and developing the accounting profession in Mauritius. The collaboration with key players in the field provides MIPA with invaluable support in achieving its objectives.”

“With an evolving economic background and the advent of new technology, we look forward to engage with ICAEW in reviewing and transforming the education standards to further strengthen the accounting profession in the country.”

As well as the signing of the memorandum, the Annual Member Dinner for Mauritian ICAEW members was held, organised by the Society of Chartered Accountants Mauritius (SOCAM), as well as a graduation ceremony to welcome new ICAEW members in Mauritius and congratulate students in Mauritius who had successfully completed ICAEW’s chartered accountancy qualification, the ACA.
