The event was chaired by Iain Wright, Director for Business and Industrial Strategy, and gave local ICAEW members the opportunity to discuss a range of issues with a senior representative of the UK Government.

Nicky Morgan MP was able to provide a unique perspective on issues affecting the accountancy and finance profession, given her former roles as Chair of the Treasury Select Committee and Secretary of State for Education. Additionally, Nicky Morgan updated the ICAEW members on what was a very busy week in Parliament and discussed about the work of her department.

The roundtable discussions allowed members to raise the challenges around skills and investment they face in the local area, as well as social mobility. The importance of continued professional development was also discussed, in light of the digitalisation of the economy and the impact AI is having on professions, including accountancy.
