Biography

Hilary Lindsay was the President of ICAEW for 2016-17; in that role she chaired its board and has been a member of its Council for over a decade. As President she was also Patron of CABA, the wellbeing charity for ICAEW members, and chair of the CCAB Board. In 2011-12 she was President of AAT (the Association of Accounting Technicians). She is now Junior Warden of the Chartered Accountants’ Livery Company.

Hilary is passionate about personal development and completed doctoral research with The Open University (OU) into the roles of continuing professional development and lifelong learning in the accountancy profession. She has since published academic articles and a book in this area and developed a framework which helps ICAEW members accelerate their learning and personal adaptability. She is an award-winning lecturer in finance and management for the OU Business School and a researcher and supervisor on the OU Doctorate in Education programme. She is the first academic and second woman to become President of ICAEW. She now chairs the steering group for the ICAEW Academia & Education Community which was launched in 2017.

Hilary has been on the boards of housing associations for the past decade and has completed a nine year term as a trustee of CABA. She has been involved with Northampton Samaritans for twenty years and has run several marathons to raise funds for them. She lives in Northampton with her husband Colin. Their joint interests include their allotment, their livery companies and walking.
