Back to basics: getting started with data sources in Power BI

Author: Data Analytics Community

Published: 15 Apr 2026

This first webinar in a ‘back to basics’ series will explore how to connect and work with various data sources in Power BI.

Aimed at beginners and those who want a hands-on refresher, it will cover a range of data sources used by accounting and finance professionals and demonstrate ways to import them into Power BI.

Rishi Sapra, Microsoft MVP and Data and Strategic Project lead at Avanade, will guide attendees through connecting to different data source types such as web APIs, files stored on SharePoint, databases, and SAP systems. He’ll also highlight the benefits of using Microsoft Fabric, including using Data Lakehouses as a staging area for analysts and features like Copilot to streamline data preparation and analysis.

Participants will leave the session with an understanding of why working with diverse data sources matters, how to access them, and how these essential skills help build reliable and scalable analytics in Power BI.

This webinar is open to all, including beginners and regular users of Power BI that want to level up.

First broadcast on 15 April 2026
