Claims for BADR
HMRC is issuing a second tranche of letters to taxpayers who made a claim for BADR in their self assessment tax return for 2024/25 and may have exceeded the lifetime limit of £1m. An earlier article, which covered the first tranche of letters, provides further details.
Employment taxes
The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) has published Taxing Wages 2026, providing cross-country comparisons of “the labour tax wedge”. The OECD describes the labour tax wedge as “total taxes on labour paid by employees and employers, minus cash benefits received by working families, as a percentage of labour costs”.
On average across the OECD, the tax wedge for a single worker earning the average wage rose by 0.15 percentage points between 2024 and 2025, to 35.1%. In the UK, it rose by 2.45 percentage points, to 32.4%.
The New Computerised Transit System
HMRC has advised that phase six of the New Computerised Transit System (NCTS6) is scheduled for deployment on Monday 1 June 2026. To support the deployment of NCTS phase six, the Great Britain (GB) and Northern Ireland (XI) services will be unavailable between 7am and 9am on 1 June. HMRC’s guidance sets out the procedures to be followed during NCTS downtime.
