ICAEW's Network of Finance Leaders (NFL) programme is designed for senior finance professionals preparing for Finance Director roles. Aykut Cinar, Finance Director at Diploma PLC, explains how they benefited from NFL.
Why did you join the Network of Finance Leaders (NFL) programme?
I joined NFL to develop my leadership skills beyond the technical side of finance, learn from other finance leaders and prepare myself for broader leadership responsibilities.
What's the biggest change you've seen in yourself as a leader since taking part?
I’ve become more confident in stepping back from the detail and focusing on the bigger picture. The programme has helped me think more consciously about how I lead, influence others and bring people with me, rather than feeling that I always need to have the answer myself.
What impact has NFL had on you, your team, or your organisation?
NFL has helped me become more deliberate in how I lead and communicate. I’ve put greater emphasis on empowering the people around me, asking better questions and making sure finance is seen as a partner to the wider business rather than simply a reporting function. That has been particularly valuable as I’ve moved into a broader Finance Director role.
What would you say to someone considering the NFL programme?
I’d definitely recommend it. It gives you the opportunity to learn from experienced leaders, share perspectives with peers and challenge how you approach leadership.
