Our speakers
Hanif is founder of board governance consultancy, Board Alchemy. He brings extensive experience of governance, risk and assurance to the Corporate Governance Committee’s work. Hanif’s client work includes undertaking reviews of board and committee effectiveness and assessing the performance of internal audit and risk teams. Hanif is a non-executive director on several boards and committees and is a member of the Audit and Risk Assurance Committee for the Department for Business and Trade. He is a co-founder of the Risk Coalition.
Dan is part of the AuditBoard Alliances team, working with our strategic partners to deliver value to our customers across EMEA. Previously, Dan was a member of AuditBoard's Customer Success team, collaborating closely with our enterprise customers across audit, controls, risk and compliance to support optimisation of the AuditBoard platform and drive efficiencies within their organizations. Dan started his career at Deloitte, where he provided external audit services for public companies listed on the NYSE and NASDAQ and is a Chartered Professional Accountant (Canada).
Derek has been a Chartered Accountant since 1994. He is one of two partners at Pinkham Blair, a general practice which he co-founded in 2004. The business specialises in assisting “corporate refugees” – those who have left large organisations to set up their own business.
Esther influences Technology policy to enable businesses, accountants and society to harness its benefits while limiting harm. Prior to joining ICAEW, she worked in technology internal and external audit roles, focussing on information and cyber security and operational resilience. She is also a qualified ICAEW Chartered Accountant, qualifying whilst at Deloitte.
Ilaria worked as Director of Regulatory and Public Policy at EY and was responsible for the management of the firm’s engagement with its regulators, government departments and professional bodies and oversight of public consultations’ responses and thought leadership on key reforms, with particular focus on company law, audit and corporate governance. Ilaria joined EY in 2019 following a long career in the public sector, across UK Government departments and within EU institutions. Expert EU negotiator, Ilaria has been a member of the OECD Corporate Governance Committee, of the EU Company Law Experts Group and of the Wates Principles Coalition Group.
Mark leads the division responsible for the FRC’s technical and public policy work covering audit, corporate reporting, corporate governance and stewardship, actuarial, and digital reporting and taxonomies. Prior to joining ExCo, Mark led the FRC’s UK Audit Policy programme, implementing measures to support greater competition in the UK audit market and work to support the reform of international standard setting for auditors, by global regulatory authorities. Mark has previous experience as a Board Member and Audit and Risk Committee Chair. He is also a member of IESBA, which sets the global Code of Ethics for the accountancy profession, and chairs IESBA’s Sustainability Task Force.
Richard has over 25 years of board level experience across a range of regulated sectors. Prior to joining the FRC, he was CEO of the UK’s Civil Aviation Authority and before that the CEO of the Legal Services Board, which oversees the regulation of the legal professions. Earlier in his career he held senior roles in the regulation of social housing, communications and energy.
Pauline is the CEO of Anekanta®AI and Anekanta®Consulting, which provide AI strategy, literacy and governance services aligned with the requirements of the EU AI Act and international pending regulations. The Company operates across sectors including facilities management, security, transportation, aviation, retail, and education. She previously held executive board roles in large international industrial video and high-risk AI technology companies. As leader in Responsible AI Pauline has driven good practice for over 20 years; recently focused on facial recognition guidance, standards and regulation, also AI policy and governance frameworks for Directors.
Based in London, Peter is responsible for developing the profile of the Institute and the governance profession with members, regulators, policymakers, employers and other stakeholders by delivering thought leadership, lobbying campaigns and professional guidance promoting strong governance as the vital ingredient for success in organisations. Peter, who joined the Institute in 2013, has more than 40 years’ experience working on governance. He is a member of a number of industry committees and working parties, and is a regular speaker at conferences and events, with an industry-wide reputation as an expert on shareholder and governance matters.
Peter is the Director of Corporate Governance and Stewardship at ICAEW. Prior to this, he was the Chief Compliance Officer for multinational enterprises headquartered in the Netherlands, France and Japan. Peter spent over six years at Transparency International UK (TI-UK), where he set up the Business Integrity Programme.
Iain oversees ICAEW's advocacy and public affairs work. He trained as a Chartered Accountant at Deloitte and Touche, before being elected as the Member of Parliament for Hartlepool in 2004. Iain went on to serve as a Minister in both the Department for Communities and Local Government and the Department for Children, Schools and Families. Later, he became Chair of Parliament’s Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy Select Committee, where he led high profile inquiries into the sale of BHS and working practices at Sports Direct.
