ICAEW journals and magazines

The ICAEW Library holds a collection of journals and magazines that have been used to help keep members up to date with developments in the profession. These include Accountancy magazine (1958-2012) and Economia (2012-2019).

Economia

In February 2012 ICAEW launched a new magazine called Economia to replace Accountancy as the official all-member monthly. The last issue of Economia was published in December 2019/January 2020.

From 2020 there has been a new programme of ICAEW member communications, including a quarterly magazine. To find out more, visit our Insights hub.

Back issues of Economia

The ICAEW Library holds a complete reference collection of Economia magazine in print and digital formats.

Our library catalogue, LibCat, also includes details of around 500 articles from Economia and can be a useful search tool to help you identify which issue an article was published in.

Archived Economia website

The ICAEW Library has collected a copy of the Economia website as it stood after the final update in December 2019. You can navigate the archived website or use the search box below to find individual articles.

Accountancy

Accountancy was first published in 1938 as the official journal of the Society of Incorporated Accountants and Auditors (and the successor to The Incorporated Accountants' Journal) until the Society integrated with ICAEW in 1957.

From January 1958 until February 2012 Accountancy was published as the journal of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW). The last edition of Accountancy magazine was published in December 2018.

Holdings

The ICAEW Library holds an almost complete reference collection of print editions of Accountancy and Accountancy International, the international version of the magazine that ran between 1995 and 2000. Two editions are missing from the set - February 2017 and March 2017.

An index to the biographical profiles, photographs and portraits that appeared in this title from 1938 to 1965 can be found in the Accountancy Ancestors database.

The Institute Newsletter and the Information Bulletin

The Institute Newsletter and its successor, the Information Bulletin, provided a regular series of updates about developments at ICAEW. Together, the titles ran from 1964 to 1987.

This informal quarterly newsletter was first published in January 1964 with a remit to provide more information on the current activities of the Council and its committees. At first it was included as an integral section within Accountancy magazine but from October 1966 it was issued as a separate publication and sent to all ICAEW members free of charge.

The Accountant

The Accountant was first published by Alfred Gee as an independent journal for the profession in October 1874. As the profession developed it received recognition as the independent weekly journal for Chartered Accountants and accountants across the world.

Although the journal was an independent publication, ICAEW recognised the value of the journal and in 1890 the Council encouraged members to become subscribers and to submit material for publication.
