This case study examines the obligations of tutors and training providers under ICAEW's revised CPD Regulations from November 2023.

Meet Chrissy

Chrissy Mathias qualified in 2019 having trained in an audit firm for four years. She left the firm in 2000 to join a professional examination training provider and is currently a senior tutor specialising in tax and financial reporting. 

Chrissy's CPD requirements

As a trainer, Chrissy falls into CPD not-in-practice category 3 and is required to undertake 20 hours of CPD annually, of which five hours must be verifiable. 

Chrissy is also required to keep records and make them available to ICAEW on request.

Chrissy's CPD activities

In addition to keeping herself up to date through the year by reading IASB and HMRC technical updates (25 hours non-verifiable), Chrissy attends her organisation’s structured programme of technical training.

She attends two-day conferences on Financial Reporting (12 hours, verifiable) and Taxation (12 hours, verifiable) every year. She also completes annual training programmes to maintain and develop her teaching skills (12 hours verifiable).
