We are aware that some probate firms are experiencing problems with banks and other financial institutions recognising that Chartered Accountants can be authorised to provide probate services. This is causing issues both with opening estate bank accounts and receiving payments from accounts or policies held in the name of the deceased client.
ICAEW’s Regulatory Policy team has been in contact with UK Finance (the trade body for financial services) to raise our concerns and are working with UK Finance to develop communications to be issued to all banks and other financial institutions to clarify the position. If your firm is experiencing problems with financial institutions recognising your firm as an accredited probate provider, please share details of this by completing our form.
