Not all ACA students start with a training agreement, but there’s a wealth of support on offer from ICAEW for independent students.
While you can sit some of the ACA exams as an independent student, you’ll need a training agreement to complete the key elements of the qualification.
1. Finding a training agreement
Securing a training agreement as early as possible is recommended, as you will benefit from an employer who has met the strict standards to train ACA students and is committed to supporting you through your training.
Visit our Training Vacancies website, which features roles across accountancy firms, industry, the public sector and charities. You can even register for job alerts to get informed when new roles come up.
Are you already working for an organisation? If it’s not currently authorised to train ACA students, they can become an ICAEW Authorised Training Employer for free, and it typically takes just a few weeks.
2. Build your network
Although starting as an independent student can seem daunting, one of the most important things to remember is you are not alone.
Our student societies organise events and activities throughout the year, giving you the opportunity to meet other ACA students from a wide range of industries and organisations.
