David Petrie, Head of the Corporate Finance Faculty

David Petrie

David leads ICAEWs public policy engagement, including most recently on the UK government’s Industrial Strategy and the Patient Capital Review. He initiated and led a task force of 22 of the UK’s leading business organisations, including the British Business Bank, to devise the Business Finance Guide. David also led a high profile initiative with HM Government together with London Stock Exchange, the Takeover Panel, AFME and other organisations, on Cyber Security in Corporate Finance.

David holds a BSc (Jt Hons.) from the University of Durham, an MBA with distinction from the University of Bath, and the ICAEW’s Diploma in Corporate Finance.

Shaun Beaney, Manager, Corporate Finance Faculty

Shaun Beaney

Shaun works on ICAEW’s communications, public policy initiatives and corporate advisory projects, particularly in innovation investment, access to finance, scale-up businesses and venture capital. He devised, researched and co-authored: Creative Industries - Routes to Finance; Boosting Finance for Engineering & Technology; UK Television in Focus; Boosting Finance for the UK's Industrial Strategy; AI in Corporate Advisory; and UK Immersive Tech – VC Investment Report.

Shaun chairs Immerse UK’s Access to Finance Working Group. He’s a member of the Creative Industries Council’s Investment for Growth Working Group and of DCMS’s Creative Scale Up Advisory Group. He’s an assessor for Innovate UK and an Associate Lecturer at Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London.

Katerina Joannou, Manager, Capital Markets Policy

Katerina Joannou

Katerina is Manager, Capital Markets Policy. She is responsible for thought leadership in corporate finance technical and regulatory issues, engaging with and understanding the needs of corporate finance practitioners and producing best-practice guidance for faculty members.

Katerina leads on ICAEW’s responses to corporate finance-related consultations and on the development of ICAEW guidance for market transactions. She is secretary to the faculty’s Technical Committee which comprises expert corporate finance practitioners.

Katerina is a chartered accountant and has also worked in banking and as a freelance business writer.

Marc Mullen, Editor, Corporate Financier magazine

Marc Mullen

Marc is a journalist and editor. He is also a chartered accountant. He qualified with Coopers & Lybrand (now PwC) in 1993, before joining its corporate finance team. He worked for Smiths Group, as financial controller of their operating company Icore, and on M&A within the FTSE100 company’s industrial group.

He retrained as a journalist and has written for a wide variety of publications, including the Independent, the FT, local newspapers. He has been editor of Corporate Financier since 2012. He wrote the two editions of the ICAEW’s Business Finance Guide, which was published with the British Business Bank and has been the most widely circulated ICAEW guideline.

He has a mathematics degree from the University of Nottingham, is an ACA, and holds the diploma of journalism.

Grace Gayle, Manager, Member Services

Grace Gayle

Grace joined ICAEW in July 2017, and as a Services Manager since September 2018. She is responsible for creating and commissioning relevant content for service activity including Faculty led events; working with the technical team, content and marketing to support and achieve increased ICAEW member engagement and value. Additionally responsible for delivering Technical Strategy operational priorities.

Grace previously worked at Barclays since 2006 in areas such as Wealth and Investment Management, IT Strategy and the Executive Office.
