A look behind the scenes at how ICAEW and its strategic partners plan for COP climate meetings. We follow them in the weeks leading up to COP28.

ICAEW and its strategic partners, Accounting for Sustainability and the Capitals Coalition, are running a series of events at COP28 to give professional accountants a better understanding of the vital part they play in making a socially just and nature-positive transition to net zero. Those attending from all three organisations will take part in many valuable conversations during the week that explore and explain the role accountants can and should play in building a sustainable economy. This then allows ICAEW and its partners to communicate back to the profession on how policy discussions, such as those at COP28, inform the day-to-day work of professional accountants.

We followed Richard Spencer, Director of Sustainability at ICAEW, Jessica Fries, Executive Chair of Accounting for Sustainability, and Mark Gough, CEO of the Capitals Coalition, during their preparations across the past few weeks. We will also publish a short film after COP to highlight some of their reflections and to look ahead to what COP28 means for the work of professional accountants in 2024.
