From April 2024, those with gross income of more than £10,000 from self-employment and/or property will need to keep digital accounting records and submit quarterly updates to HMRC using commercial software. The start date for Making Tax Digital (MTD ITSA) is now law.

The deadline for the first quarterly updates, 5 August 2024, may seem a long way away but the considerable amount of preparation required needs to start sooner rather than later. In this series of webinars the ICAEW Tax Faculty (Anita Monteith and Caroline Miskin) and guests will provide the latest information and guidance on MTD ITSA, cover topics such as choosing software, the progress of HMRC’s pilot, the practicalities of signing up and answer questions from businesses and practitioners.

In this first MTDtalk of 2022 Anita Monteith and Caroline Miskin follow up on points arising from the webinar on 30 November 2021 which covered the Making Tax Digital income tax self assessment regulations in detail. Many of these related to income from property. If you have not already done so, we recommend watching the 30 November webinar before you watch this recording.
