Rights and powers: protecting the legitimate interests of taxpayers

This year’s lecture will be given by Jonathan Schwarz, who will trace the evolution of taxpayers’ rights and the taxing authority’s powers, leading up to the revision of HMRC’s powers in the 2007 and 2008 Finance Acts and the current consultation on a new taxpayers’ charter.

Registration and refreshments will commence at 5.30pm. Tax Faculty Chairman, Paul Aplin, will then introduce the formal proceedings, which will start at 6.00pm prompt. The evening will include a formal dinner and is expected to end no later than 9.30pm.

Speakers

Jonathan Schwarz is a barrister at 3 Temple Gardens Tax Chambers and has wide international experience of taxation issues. He is a member of the Tax Faculty’s Large Business and International Tax Committee.
