New law: Government announces annual increases in maternity, sickness and other statutory payments for 2022

The government has announced proposed increases to statutory benefit payments as follows:
  • Statutory maternity, paternity, adoption, shared parental pay, statutory parental bereavement pay and maternity allowance will increase from £151.97 per week to £156.66 per week.
  • Statutory sick pay will increase from £96.35 to £99.35.

The government guidance says the increases will take place from 3 April 2022.

  • April 2022

Recommendation

  • Employers should budget and plan for the increases with effect from the relevant introduction dates.
