Iain Wright

Chief Policy and Communications Officer, ICAEW

Iain leads ICAEW’s Policy, Communications and Influence division. He is responsible for shaping and influencing policy, and for engaging with key external stakeholders at the highest levels.

Since joining ICAEW in April 2018, he has played a key role in strengthening the organisation’s influence on UK economic and business policy, alongside leading its external communications strategy. He also serves as Business Co-Chair of the Professional & Business Services Council, working with government to support one of the UK’s priority growth sectors.

Iain is a Chartered Accountant, who began his career at Deloitte & Touche (1995–2003) before serving as MP for Hartlepool from 2004 to 2017. During this time, he held ministerial roles in housing, planning and education, and later chaired the Business, Enterprise and Industrial Strategy Select Committee, leading high-profile inquiries into major corporate and employment practices.
