Following qualification as both a Chartered Accountant and a Chartered Tax Adviser with Deloitte Haskins & Sells, Howard founded Cavendish Corporate Finance LLP in 1988 and remains its Senior Partner. Under his leadership, Cavendish has become the UK’s leading specialist sell-side adviser to owners of mid-market businesses, advising on more than 700 transactions. It is now listed on the London AIM market as Cavendish plc.
Howard was instrumental in establishing the ICAEW’s Faculty of Corporate Finance and was appointed its Chairman in 2000. He received the Faculty’s Outstanding Achievement in Corporate Finance Award in 2008. He is also a member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation.
In 2013 Howard was elevated to the Peerage as Lord Leigh of Hurley and in 2024 he accompanied the Prime Minister on a trade mission to China. He speaks regularly in the Lords on matters relating to the Jewish community, Israel, international affairs, business, the economy, tax and trade, and has chaired the Finance Bill Select Committee.
Howard became Non-Executive Chairman of Manolete Partners plc in 2021.
He is committed to a range of community and charitable organisations and his roles include Chairman of the Jerusalem Foundation UK, President of Westminster Synagogue, Trustee of the Henley Festival and Senior Treasurer of the Conservative Party. He is also a long-standing supporter of WaterAid.
