Rob trained at Arthur Young in Newcastle – now Ernst & Young (EY) – where he developed his auditing skills. In the 1980’s, he joined a small firm developing financial modelling and commercial skills, before joining a large independent practice as a Partner providing business advisory and strategic planning advice to SME’s.
In 2000, he established his own firm, Tindle’s, driven by a belief that clients deserve tailored commercial and business advice and strategic financial guidance. Part of the firm’s ethos is recruiting, training and retaining ACA trainees, providing opportunities for young aspiring professionals - many of whom have since enjoyed careers as partners, director and managers at Tindle’s.
Rob has served in many roles for ICAEW, including as a member of both the ICAEW Disciplinary Committee and the ICAEW Audit Registration Committee, and President of the Northern Society of Chartered Accountants from 2015-16. More recently, he has been a member of both ICAEW Board and ICAEW Council.
He has also been involved with the wider business and voluntary community, including as Chair of the Teesside General Practitioners Group since 1994, Chair of Governors at Teesside High School and developing a 200-room hotel business venture alongside other investors.
Rob lives in Teesside with his wife, Sheila, and has two grown-up daughters. He is a keen skier and a lifelong supporter of Newcastle United - a passion that has taken him across the world to watch them play.
Rob will become ICAEW President in 2027.
